Why AI developers pay for company records
- 01AI learned from the public internet. It has not seen how real companies actually work.
- 02So AI developers now pay companies for a licence to use copies of their records, with personal details removed.
- 03Most records licensed so far are American. Malaysian records, in English, BM and Chinese, are rare. That is why they are sought after.

Is this for us?
Is my company a good fit?
Most likely, if you have at least 20 staff and 5 years of records kept on computers or phones, such as email, WhatsApp groups, accounting software, drawings or job sheets. Construction and engineering firms, manufacturers, traders, logistics companies and professional firms are all good fits. Companies that have closed or been sold can still qualify, as long as someone holds the rights to the records. The free estimate tells you in about three minutes.
Is there a minimum amount of records?
There is no fixed minimum. What matters most is how many years your records cover and how many systems they sit in. Several years across email, chat, accounting and project files is a strong starting point.
Who uses the records?
AI developers building tools for everyday business work, such as answering emails, preparing quotations and tracking projects. To learn how real companies operate, their models need real records like yours. Developers usually keep their data partners confidential, so you learn the developer's name under a non-disclosure agreement, before you decide anything.
Privacy and control
How are staff and customer privacy protected?
Personal details are removed from every record before any AI developer sees it, including names, phone numbers, IC numbers, addresses and payment details. Some records are never included at all, such as payroll and HR files, bank and card details, identity documents, medical records, privileged legal files and anything about children. Nothing is shared until you approve it in writing.
Do we need to clean or anonymise anything first?
No. You don't need to sort, clean or remove anything. The licensing team removes personal details and prepares the records. If exporting is a hassle, they can do it with you on a short screen share.
What about sensitive business information?
You decide what stays out. Current pricing, key client folders and tenders in progress can be left out entirely, and we recommend leaving them out. What you do share goes only to the AI developer named in your agreement, for the purposes the agreement sets out. AI developers use records to learn how business work is done in general. They are not interested in your clients or your prices.
Is this allowed under PDPA?
The personal data protection laws of Malaysia and Singapore (PDPA) govern personal data, and personal details are removed before any AI developer sees your records. Every agreement is in writing, and your lawyer or data protection officer can review it and the process before you sign.
Money
How much could our records be worth?
It depends on four things: how many people work at your company, how many years of records you keep, which systems they sit in, and how specialised your field is. Records that show how jobs actually turned out, such as quotes that were won, projects that were delivered and invoices that were paid, are worth more. The free estimate gives you a first range in about three minutes. The licensing team then confirms the value in writing after reviewing your records, and nothing is final until you agree.
When do we get paid?
Once an AI developer purchases your records, payment can arrive in as little as 7 days, and each payment comes with a statement. Before that, the licensing team reviews and prepares your records.
Do we keep ownership, and what happens to the copy?
Yes, your company keeps full ownership. Nothing is moved or deleted, and your systems keep running as they do today. You grant a licence, which is permission for one AI developer to use a copy of selected records, for the purposes and the period written in the agreement. You see every term before you sign, and your lawyer is welcome to review it.
